Veterinary Technician/Assistant Externship Program
Externship Program is currently suspended until further notice.
Orange Grove Animal Hospital has a long standing, hands on learning program for students of our local veterinary technology and veterinary assistant programs. Students will be given opportunities to perfect their veterinary nursing skills in areas such as radiology, laboratory, surgery and small animal and exotic nursing. Overseen by our Lead Technician and Veterinarians, students are expected to display a high level of self-initiative and demonstrate capability in the skills covered during class work. We accept externs from Pima Community College and Pima Medical Institute’s Veterinary Technician programs and from multiple veterinary assistant programs. Colleges other than PCC and PMI are accepted on a case by case basis and resumes must be submitted with complete documentation from your program regarding preceptorships and clinic agreements.
To apply for an externship position, please fax a resume and cover letter to 877-2603 or email to orangegroveAH@gmail.com. Your cover letter should include the name of your school, the program you are enrolled in, the number of hours required by the program and the dates those hours must be completed in as well as days of the week and times you are available. Resumes and cover letters may be dropped off in person at the hospital’s front desk.
Externship spots are limited and students should have resumes submitted no later than December 15th for the spring semester, April 1st for the summer semester and July 1st for Fall semester.
Volunteers
Volunteer Program is currently suspended until further notice.
Orange Grove Animal Hospital has a limited number of openings for volunteers. This program is aimed at providing clinical experience for students in the veterinary science and animal science programs at University of Arizona with the aim of applying to a Veterinary Medicine program. Hours per week will vary based on the needs of the hospital and the student’s class schedule.
Other education programs, such as those ran by our local high schools, are available but dependent on the program and its requirements and are arranged on a case by case basis. Please include as much information about the program and goals as well as number of hours per week desired in your cover letter.

Please include the school you are currently attending, the reason volunteer clinical hours are being sought and the number of hours desired. Resumes and cover letters may also be dropped off in person at the hospital’s front desk.
